Angela Campbell (irl) and Erik Van Eetvelde (b)
"Over the Hills"
Angela Campbell came te Belgium at the age of 20. She grew up in Ireland and came from a family with a strong musical tradition. She met Erik Van Eetvelde through the rockgroup "Patchwork". "Patchwork" played mainly in youth centres and their programme consisted of original compositions of the group members. Two years later Angela and Erik got married.
After "Patchwork" Angela and Erik formed "The Railroad Company" bringing acoustic ragtime and blues. Angela's expressive voice and Erik's fingerpicking technic were well appreciated by their audiences. They played in many pubs and festivals with this ragtime and blues programme and it also took them on a small tour in the South-East of England.
Along-side their musical carriere Angela and Erik also welcomed three foster children into their home. This experience proved among other things to be a rich stimulance for writing songs. In 1993 they brought the C.D. "Exile" on the market under the name "Maire Ní Cabhmhaoil" (Angela's name in Gaelic). The C.D. consisted of 11 self composed songs and one traditional. The Dutch folk magazine "New Folksounds" described the C.D. as follows : "alle songs zijn als kleine briljantjes ingelegd op het zilveren schijfje. Gewoonweg prachtig!" which roughly translates into : "All the songs are placed like little jewels on a silver disc. Just beautiful!" Not only were there many concerts following the release of 'Exile', there were also a number of live recordings made for the BRT (the Belgian national radio station) in programmes such as 'De Gewapende Man' and 'Ochtendkuren met Somers en Verschueren'.
After a few relatively quiet years as far as music was concerned (renovating, educating children, ....) Angela and Erik are now ready to take a new step in their musical career. Playing as a duo answering to the name "Angela Campbell and Erik Van Eetvelde" they bring their current programme "Over the Hills". This programme consists of a mixture of their own compositions, Irish folksongs and instrumentals, and their own interpretation of songs from well-known artists such as Sheryl Crow, Luka Bloom, Live, Joan Armatrading, Joni Mitchell ... An exciting and touching musical experience!
